What is LittleLink?

What it is

LittleLink is a lightweight, self-hosted link-in-bio project in HTML and CSS, released under the MIT license. It is a DIY alternative to Linktree in the marketing and customer engagement ecosystem, where users collect public links in one page. The project solves the problem of presenting multiple branded destinations without a hosted service or a large framework, because a user can fork the repository, edit basic HTML, and publish on their own infrastructure.

Key capabilities

  • LittleLink provides more than 100 branded button styles, and the community adds more through the main repository and LittleLink Extended.
  • The Button Builder lets users preview button styles, copy generated CSS for css/brands.css, and copy generated HTML for index.html.
  • The builder checks contrast ratios and suggests strokes when needed, helping custom buttons remain visible in light and dark themes.
  • The project includes auto, light, and dark themes, with theme selection in index.html and color customization in style.css.
  • Buttons lacking sufficient contrast can be outlined with an inverse stroke to improve visibility.
  • LittleLink uses vanilla CSS instead of a large framework, keeping the page simple and editable with basic HTML knowledge.

Who uses it and how

  • Individuals can fork LittleLink and edit index.html to create a personal page for social accounts, portfolios, stores, or other destinations.
  • Users who need custom branded buttons can use the Button Builder to generate CSS and HTML, then paste the snippets into project files.
  • Developers and self-hosters can deploy through GitHub Pages, a home lab server, a CDN, or another frontend hosting service.
  • Users who want quick publishing can use one-click deployment paths for Cloudflare, DigitalOcean, Vercel, Netlify, or Amplify.

Getting started

The typical start is to fork the repository and edit index.html, adding links or creating custom buttons with the Button Builder. The README lists one-click deployment for Cloudflare, DigitalOcean, Vercel, Netlify, and Amplify, plus GitHub Pages, a home lab server, a CDN, or other frontend hosting, with no gulp or npm required.

When to use it — and when not to

LittleLink is useful when the goal is a small, self-hosted link page that avoids framework bloat and can be published on static or frontend hosting. It offers a self-hosted alternative to Linktree, but the operator must manage the fork, files, and deployment target; the README mentions no database, storage, or SMTP requirement. It may not suit users who need guaranteed accessibility for every brand, because some branded buttons may fall short of optimal contrast.

🆕 LittleLink Button Builder

Want to make your own buttons for LittleLink but you're not too sure where to start? Check out our new Button Builder. This new builder lets you preview button styles and with a single click, copy the generated CSS code to put in css/brands.css, and copy the generated HTML code to put in index.html. This builder also helps automate accessibility features by checking contrast ratios and suggesting strokes when needed, ensuring your custom buttons maintain LittleLink's high standards for visibility in both light and dark themes. 🌞 Themes and Accessibility

LittleLink offers auto, light, and dark themes right out of the box. If the default color schemes don't match your preference, you can easily customize them by updating the values in style.css. You can set any of the themes right in index.html. To enhance visual accessibility in both light and dark modes, buttons lacking sufficient contrast with the background are outlined with an inverse stroke to ensure visibility. While LittleLink emphasizes accessibility, it's important to acknowledge that not all brands incorporated into LittleLink achieve this standard. Branded buttons that come into LittleLink always retain the original essence of the brand and some branded buttons might fall short of optimal accessibility in terms of contrast.

🥇 Performance

Performance

LittleLink epitomizes simplicity and minimalism. When evaluating the LittleLink sample page (which mirrors a typical LittleLink setup for an individual) through tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights, showcases LittleLink's excellence with 100/100 in Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO. My initial vision for LittleLink was to craft it from the fundamentals. LittleLink leverages its own vanilla css to remove the unnecessary bloat you would get from using a large framework for a page that requires nothing more than simplicity.
